Why does everyone hate Mondays? Really, Wednesdays are the worst. Garfield needs a new script. I think after a long, relaxing weekend of study, five days of work is just about right get ready for another long, relaxing weekend. Et cetera.
OK, you all may think that I'm the most boringest person on the face of the earth (I know you don't, but bear with me here). That I am the kind of person who would get excited about playing one chess game for 6 hours while doing nothing else. Well, you're sort of right. (Especially about that chess game. Whoo!) What I'm doing right now would bore the socks off a high percentage of US American 19-year-olds. However, believe it or not, I find immense enjoyment and satisfaction in being productive, knowing that when I'm older I'll be able to look back on right now and say, "Wow, I'm so glad I did that. I'm so glad I pushed myself and didn't give up, allowing me to goof off the rest of my life." It gets easier from here, right?
For everyone who hasn't heard, I moved to Bakersfield a month ago to start working for a Bankruptcy attorney. Never having been away from home before, there are quite a few firsts that I've had the pleasure of realizing:
Buying groceries. Believe it or not, my total number of times buying groceries before moving was probably one (could have something to do with strategically waiting until I was 19 before getting my driver's license). And even then, someone else had made a list. Now I have to figure out what I want to eat, then where I want to get it, and, of course, how to get the best deal.
Working. OK, this one wasn't too unexpected. But after two months of getting up at whatever time I pleased after the Baby Bar, it takes some getting used to. But I like it. Routines are awesome.
Having my own room. I never knew what joy could be extracted from liberally strewing one's stuff around one's own room without worrying about it getting mixed up with one's sibling's stuff. And then 6 months later when neither of you remember whose it was in the first place, so you leave it on the floor assuming it's the other guy's.
And, of course, making a whole new set of friends. Which I sort of have yet to do (you might call it a subset at this point, if you didn't know the actual meaning of that word). But the possibilities are quite exciting. Meanwhile, work plus school plus attempting (one more time!) to learn Spanish do a good job of filling up my days.
Buenas noches!
P.S. Hmm, what do you think? Too many parentheticals?

Actually...the more parentheticals the better, in this writer's humble opinion. ;-)
And also, I concur regarding Mondays. There is something cool about being back to a routine. However, I disagree with Wednesday being the worst day. Tuesday is the worst (for me, anyway). Going through Wednesday means I am more than halfway through another week with another exciting weekend on the horizon. And this weekend I'm thinking about doing another weird, wacky, and unpredictable drive... How could I NOT look forward to that?!
Props on the blogging. You seem to have a nice flair for this sort of thing. Keep it up, Landon.
Cheers.

Grr...I am going to cyber shoot you, if you don't allow anonymous content. Now I have another password to remember.
Welcome to the blogosphere. I'm glad I am part of a different blogging community, if we were in the same one, it would probably implode.
Welcome to CA, etc. etc.
Advice duly taken and acted upon. Requiring accounts is kind of useless anyway if people are going to make random account names.
So Landon, you must realize that by making this blog you are practically asking for this little sister of yours to make a public embarrassment out of you by using this wonderful comment feature as an opportunity to advertise to the world how awesome she thinks you are and how much she misses you etc. etc. etc. after every single post, to the point of (and beyond) possible humiliation for such a refined, professional and highly esteemed working man as yourself. I just thought I'd warn you - it's the least you deserve.
Caryn - the very existence of sisters is to make sure our brothers feel missed, loved, appcriated and know they are wonderful. I'm quite certain of the fact so keep going!
Landon, from experience, I think it takes about a year to really learn how to grocery shop. So you can either be encouraged that it takes time, or discouraged that it takes a LOT of time! But in all seriousness, it's kind of an art but I know you are up to the challenge! Hang in there buddy, and if you ever need a day trip or a weekend, we are just up the road from you!
you write, "... allowing me to goof off the rest of my life." It gets easier from here, right?"
Right!
Love you,
Your Dad
